When the iPhone was unveiled and only US could avail of the benefits, people in the other parts of the world felt left-out. But here’s some good news for the faithful followers! The day when Apple’s 3G iPhone version rolls out may not be too far. Will this give a boost to the company’s stock that has been plummeting down since 2 months now?
An industry analyst’s note on Fox News hinted that Apple has lined up the German chipmaker Infineon Technologies to supply parts for its next-generation iPhone, and may release the product as soon as June or July, which would be about 12 months after the iPhone’s initial release in the U.S. The 3G iPhone is expected to trigger a flurry of sales to fans who are enamored of the iPhone but feel that its most innovative features — such as the Web browser — are hampered by the slower network.
Speculation has been fuelled by the reports that Apple has begun to reduce its focus on the current iPhone platform — which runs on the slower 2.5G cellular high-speed network known as EDGE — in favor of developing software for the newer device, which will support a software that will allow developers to write applications for the iPhone, says UBS analyst, Ben Reitzes. The second generation iPhone also promises exciting new enterprise features! If Apple can announce fuller connectivity with Microsoft’s mail and calendar platforms and Lotus Notes, and other initiatives to make the iPhone a real alternative to the Blackberry for the serious business user, the newer version will likely beat the predecessor in terms of sales!
This is just a rumor found over at computerworld, but it does sound exciting and very fitting for the announcement by Apple last week saying there were some exciting new enterprise features coming our way. What could be bigger for the corporate world that having Exchange on their iPhones? I think this would increase the adoption of the iPhone by big business.
According to gizmodo a new iPhone application is being developed (already working) to enable P2P on the iPhone. This is exciting news for many but it is still in early stages of development. A few things to note about this application as of right now.
Apple has released a new iPhone model which now comes in 16GB for $499, joining the 8GB model for $399. iPod touch now comes in a 32GB model for $499, joining the 16GB model for $399 and the 8GB model for $299. You can never have too much space with all the possible uses of the iPhone, photos, music, movies and more!

Apple sent out invitations to select media asking them to join Apple on March 6th to introduce the iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit). Hopefully the SDK will be released either that day or soon there after.

The SDK was supposed to ship this month, but obviously Apple couldn’t get it out the door in time. Whether or not Apple actually rolls out the SDK next week isn’t clear, however.
At the least, we should finally receive some details about how Apple plans to handle the development and distribution of native third-party applications—those that run on the iPhone itself and not through the Safari Web browser.
It’s also about time Apple started to take the enterprise as seriously as consumer for the iPhone. While it’s clear business people and IT pros alike are excited it, very few are likely to make it their primary smartphone due to a lack of enterprise-ready features.
Depending on what direction Apple goes with the SDK, maybe it’ll even allow companies to create their own internal iPhone apps, as they can today with most other smartphone platforms.
I guess the rumor post from before wasn’t so true after all unless this was a security update.
Apple has released iPhone software version 1.1.4. It’s now available for download and installation through iTunes.
Apple isn’t offering any specific details on what’s changed in this new release, except to say that the 1.1.4 release “includes bug fixes and supersedes all previous versions.”
UPDATE: The Ziphone unlocking software that we recommend to unlock your iPhone for free has not been confirmed to work with version 1.1.4 but is said to have it available on the 29th of this month after testing. I will post when it becomes available.
The unofficial Apple Weblog has a great writeup on how to equip your iPhone with a LoJack solution so that it calls home and alerts you of its location, especially helpful if it is lost or stolen.
The program is called findme and is a command line interface that returns the location of the cell tower closest to the iPhone and shows you on Google Maps. The report is given through a private Twitter account as to keep the information hidden from everyone else.
